Ghostbusters Firehouse New York City

If you are a fan of the classic Ghostbusters movies, then visiting the original Ghostbusters Firehouse in New York City is a place you must visit. This firehouse is officially known as Hook & Ladder Company 8 and is a working FDNY firehouse located in the Tribeca neighborhood of Manhattan and was the exterior filming location for the Ghostbusters headquarters in the 1984 and 1989 film.

You will instantly recognize the iconic red doors and “Ghostbusters” logo displayed on the sidewalk out front and the Ghostbusters sign above the doors. Of course, the interior scenes were filmed elsewhere but you can still take photos of the outside and create a memorable stop for any movie lover.

Address: 14 North Moore Street, New York City

Hours: This is an active FDNY station so at times they may be rushing to a call, or the doors may be closed limiting access to view inside. When the firemen are there, they do try and open their doors for you to see inside. You are free to walk to this building at any time of the day.

We were lucky enough to visit when a couple of the firemen were onsite with the doors open. They would answer any questions they could, had a few firehouse memorabilia on display and were selling t-shirs, sweatshirts, and patches with the Ghostbusters FDNY logo. Some bloggers report they only accept cash for the items they sell.

New York Public Library ghost encounter

The New York Public Library was the location of the original Ghostbusters movie (1984) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024). In the original movie, the film opens inside the library’s famous marble halls at the Stephen A Schwarzman Building on Fifth Avenue, where a librarian experiences ghostly activity among the stack of books. Later the Ghostbusters team investigates the disturbances and encounters their first supernatural entity the “Library Ghost”.

Although the iconic stone lions, “Patience” and “Fortitude,” do not come alive outside of movie magic, they still provide a memorable photo opportunity.

Address: Fifth Avenue and 42dn Street, New York

Hours: Monday closed, Tuesday and Wednesday 10am to 8pm, Thursday, Friday and Saturday 10am to 6pm, Sunday 1pm to 5pm

Who ya gonna call?

Definitely the Ghostbusters! Visiting the iconic Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse in New York City is a nostalgic experience that helps bring the movie to life. Standing outside the firehouse doors created a sense of connection to the film that I wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else. Snap a photo and chat with the firemen for such a fun day.
